■ RACE 1 ? THE OWNERS CUP

Prior to the start, Dougan broke through its stall, and shortly after Tambour Battant?s gate opened, dislodging their respective riders, the former running the entire course and the latter running part of the course. Consequently, acting under Rule 140 of the Rules of Racing, both horses were withdrawn from the race. In view of this, all bets on these horses were ordered to be refunded and the winning bets with bookmakers were paid less 5 cents per rupee in both cases, the average price of Dougan being 12-1 and Tambour Battant 19-1 at the time of withdrawal. Trainer V. Allet was told that Dougan will need to trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards before being allowed to race again. At the start Express Mail and Awanago were slow out, both losing about one length. On jumping Camp Delta stumbled badly, becoming unbalanced over a few strides. Approaching the 800 metre-crossing, Jose Mourinho (Rama) hesitated and shifted out, Jet Propelled (Neisius) which was racing on its outside was slightly inconvenienced. From the 500 metres Express Mail was taken out to improve its position and raced wide from thereon. Passing the 300 metres New Recruit was held up for a run when unable to improve behind Piper?s Promise, shifted in and brushed the running rails over a short distance. Fortunate Act raced wide throughout. The Club?s Veterinary Surgeon reported that Awanago was lame on both hind legs. In view of this report, trainer S. Ramdour was told that Awanago will need a veterinary certificate of soundness before being allowed to race.

■ RACE 2 ? THE PRINCESS CUP

Shortly after the start, Sardonyx, when being settled, threw its head up, shifted in brushing Ten Hundred. Approaching the 1300 metres, when being taken closer to the fence, Sardonyx, which was racing fiercely, was inconvenienced off the heels of Astrakhan and had to be eased. Sardonyx raced fiercely from the 1200 metres to the 600 metres and approaching the 800 metres was taken out off the heels of Mutual Secret. Approaching the 1000 metres In Her Honour, which was racing fiercely, shifted out when being settled, taking Dancing Joshua, which was following, onto Ten Hundred, resulting in Dancing Joshua being inconvenienced on In Her Honour?s heels and stumbling badly. Ten Hundred raced wide on the first turn. In Her Honour and Dancing Joshua raced fiercely from the 1000 to the 500 metres. Near the 350 metres, Sardonyx was taken out for a clear run and raced wide rounding the home turn. Approaching the 300 metres Laicep?s was taken out for a run and, in doing so, carried In A Heart Beat onto Ten Hundred, resulting in In A Heart Beat being slightly cramped for room and being inconvenienced. Passing the 100 metres, Astrakhan was taken in off the heels of In Her Honour in order to obtain a clear run. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of Laicep?s, jockey Herholdt reported that this horse had pleased the stable during the week and he expected a much better run from this horse, however, when asked for an effort Laicep?s failed to respond. He added that this gelding might run a better race when equipped with blinkers. A subsequent veterinary examination of Laicep?s revealed that it bled from both nostrils and that it was coughing. In view of this, trainer B. Gujadhur was told that this horse has been suspended for one month and will need a veterinary clearance before being allowed to race again. Trainer C. Ramdin and jockey Boutanive were questioned as to the improved performance of Mutual Secret. Trainer C. Ramdin explained that this horse had worked well before its first run and he expected a good run from the latter. However, it raced green and failed to quicken when asked for an effort. So, he is of the opinion that Mutual Secret needed that run. Since then, Mutual Secret had shown improvement in its work and he decided against running it in blinkers on this occasion since the gelding had pleased the stable in its work without this equipment. He concluded by saying that the early fast pace in the race might have contributed to its improved performance. Jockey Boutanive confirmed that his mount had been working better at track work and that in the early stages of the race was outpaced and, when asked for an effort, quickened up nicely. He added that he expected a better run this time out but he was pleasantly surprised by Mutual Secret?s performance. The Club?s Veterinary Surgeon reported that Dancing Joshua was coughing after the race. A subsequent endoscoping examination of this gelding revealed traces of blood in its trachea. In view of this, Trainer S. Henry was told that Dancing Joshua should be treated accordingly.

■ RACE 3 ? THE SERGE HENRY CUP

At the start Imperious Caesour was slow out, losing about one length.

■ RACE 4 ? THE SIR WINSTON CHURCHILL CUP

Near the 1600 metres, Midnight Mass had to be steadied when Kilto shifted in. Jockey Daniels was shown the video of the incident and told to exercise care when shifting ground. Passing the 100 metres Midnite Mass hung in under pressure and had to be straightened by jockey Herholdt.

■ RACE 5 ? THE Phoenix COLONEL DRAPER CUP

At the start Joshua Tree was slow out, losing about one length. One For The Road was slow into stride. Shortly after the start Germany On stumbled and shifted in, resulting in Fashion Editor, on his inside, having to be checked. Jockey Stewart was shown the video of the incident and reminded that he had been advised in the past to straighten his mounts when they shift ground. He was issued with a warning and told that he should have straightened his mount sooner than he did on this occasion. Approaching the 1400 metres One For The Road was taken out off the heels of Germany On and allowed to go to the lead. Approaching the 300 metres Made Of Money was carried out when jockey Herholdt (Jumpin Joshua) took his mount out in order to obtain a clear run. Approaching the 100 metres Molten was slightly unbalanced when attempting a run into a small gap between Made Of Money, which had shifted in, and One For The Road. Jockey Daniels (Made Of Money) was shown the video of the incident and told that in future he should straighten his mounts when they shift ground.

■ RACE 6 ? THE PHILIPPE ROUSSET CUP

At the start, Royal Harvest, Clifton King and Men Of Rheims were slow out, all losing about one length. Shortly after the start Royal Harvest was cramped for room and had to be eased off the heels of Flavius which shifted in. Jockey Stewart was shown the video of the incident and told to straighten his mounts when they shift ground. In the final straight Splendid Man proved difficult to be properly controlled and near the 100 metres shifted out from the whip resulting in Royal Harvest, which was following, being slightly inconvenienced. Jockey Herholdt (Spendid Man) was shown the video of the incident and told to straighten his mounts when they shift ground. Jockey Stewart was questioned as to why he unnecessarily restrained Flavius. He explained that he had been instructed by trainer S. Henry to either lead or be amongst the leaders as there was no real known pacemaker in the race. He added that passing the 1000 metres, when being in the lead and setting a regular pace his mount started over-racing when jockey Herholdt (Splendid Man) came on his outside. He thus decided to let Jockey Herholdt go to the lead and settle Flavius just off the pace. He added that since Splendid Man races in an erratic manner, he elected to take his horse off the fence earlier than he had anticipated. His explanations were noted.

■ RACE 7 ? PRIX DU CENTENAIRE DE L?ALLIANCE FRANÇAISE

At the start Slivovitz threw its head up and jumped inwards, was slow out, losing about one length and thereafter raced fiercely up to the 1200 metres. In the final straight Orace Barfoot hung out badly under pressure and was difficult to be properly assisted. Eli?s Romance and National Trust hung out badly in the final straight. Jockey Woodworth reported that on jumping the saddle on National Trust slipped backwards. Following Mr Allet?s public statement that he was not happy with the running of this race, he was provided with the opportunity to elaborate on the matter. After having heard Mr. Allet and jockey B. Woodworth and viewed together the relevant films of the race, the Racing Stewards pointed out that, in their opinion, there were no irregularities in the running of the race.

■ RACE 8 ? THE COURTESY CUP

Destination raced fiercely from shortly after the start and had to be eased off the heels of Real Caliz on a few occasions and threw its head up. From entering the back straight Midnight Mint had a tendency to hang out and rounding the home turn hung out badly. Upon entering the final straight Dutori had to be taken in off the heels of Real Schlep in order to obtain a clear run. In the final straight Red Indian had a tendency to hang in and could not be properly assisted.

GENERAL

A. At an inquiry into an incident Trainer J. Serge Henry pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 213 (3) (a), the particulars being that on Sunday 2 September 2007, after the 8th race, he barged into the Racing Stewards? room and addressed the Board in a disrespectful manner and, without the Board?s authorisation, ordered the journalists present in the room to report on the matter, thus conducting himself in an improper manner. Mr. Henry was fined Rs 5,000.

B. Following the barrier trial held today, trainer A. Perdrau was told that Aquavit will need to trial again to the satisfaction of the Stewards before being allowed to race again.

C. At an inquiry, jockey Daniels pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 53 B. (1) (i) in that at the time he presented himself for the 18th race meeting on the 2nd of September 2007, he was found to be under the influence of a restricted substance, namely Oxazepam. Jockey Daniels was fined Rs 25,000.
