■ RACE 1 ? THE ?DEANAN? DOYAL CUP

An objection was lodged by jockey N. Nagadoo, rider of Play The Field, which finished fourth, against Dutori (R. Doyal) which finished third, alleging interference near the 100 metres. After taking evidence from the riders and trainers concerned and viewing the relevant videos, the objection was dismissed. At the start Everlasting and Simply Green were slow out, both losing about one length. Dutori jumped inwards onto Frequent Dance which in turn bumped Going Down resulting in the latter being inconvenienced and having to be steadied off the heels of Don?s Fire. Passing the 1300 metres Everlasting which was racing greenly, shifted out, clipped the heels of Undisputed and became badly unbalanced, nearly dislodging its rider. Masterfax, which was following, also had to be checked badly. Passing the 600 metres Play The Field shifted in slightly, inconveniencing Frequent Dance. Approaching the 500 metres Going Down was taken out off the heels of Undisputed for a clear run. Undisputed raced wide rounding the home turn. Shortly before entering the final straight Simply Green had to be steadied when Well Met shifted in. Jockey Azie was shown the video of the incident, issued with a warning and told to exercise care when shifting ground. Everlasting raced wide on the first turn.

Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from Masterfax and Going Down prior to the race and from Credit Line prior to and after the race.

■ RACE 2 ? THE RAOUL ROCHECOUSTE CUP

At the start Lone Star Park jumped outwards onto Light Path which was slightly inconvenienced. Mutual Secret was slow out, losing about one length. Passing the 1300 metres Green Scheme was inconvenienced and had to be eased when Judge Boesman shifted in. Jockey Herholdt (Judge Boesman) was shown the video of the incident, issued with a warning and told to exercise care before shifting ground. Green Scheme raced fiercely from the 1100 to the 900 metres. Approaching the 900 metres Dane?s Castle, which was racing fiercely, was taken off the heels of Light Path. Upon entering the final straight Lone Star Park hung in badly over some distance, inconveniencing Light Path on its inside. Trainer P. Merven and jockey Daniels were questioned as to why Lone Star Park did not go to the lead after benefiting from a good start. Trainer Merven explained that his instructions were to try to settle the horse behind the leader since at its previous race Lone Star Park having led, over-raced and failed to quicken at the finish. Jockey Daniels confirmed these instructions and said that the horse had run better than he expected but unfortunately it had been caught wide most of the race. He added that depending on the circumstances he thinks that this gelding would run better races off the pace. The explanations were accepted. From the 200 metres Judge Boesman hung out inconveniencing Dane?s Castle on its outside, and near the 100 metres was eventually straightened. Jockey Herholdt was shown the video of the incident and told that he is expected to straighten his mount sooner than he did on this occasion. Approaching the 100 metres Emjaybee had to be eased when disappointed for a run on the inside of Green Scheme.

■ RACE 3 ? THE RENE MAINGARD CUP

At an inquiry into an incident, jockey Teeha (Dick Dastardly) pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 161 (c) in that passing the 1300 metres he carelessly allowed his mount to shift in onto Weston Heritage, carrying the latter onto Leatherman which had to be taken in and checked off the heels of Born Leader. Jockey Teeha was fined Rs 20,000. At an inquiry into an incident, jockey Teeha (Dick Dastardly) pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 161 (c) in that approaching the 1000 metres he carelessly allowed his mount to shift in, resulting in Leatherman on his inside having to be checked over some distance. Jockey Teeha was fined Rs 20,000. Passing the 1100 metres, Born Leader, which was racing greenly, shifted in sharply and Umhlanga, which was following and had a tendency to lay out, had to be eased. Approaching the 800 metres, Born Leader shifted in abruptly and brushed the running rail when Seeking The Gold improved its position on Born Leader?s outside. From the 150 metres, Dick Dastardly had a tendency to hang in and passing the 100 metres brushed Born Leader which was fading and had to be carried in and was eased off the heels of Weston Heritage. The Club?s Veterinary Surgeon reported that War Council bled from both nostrils. In view of this report and acting under Rule 166 (2) (c), trainer Ramapatee Gujadhur was told that War Council has been suspended for one month and will need a veterinary clearance before being allowed to race again.

■ RACE 4 ? THE TELETOTE TROPHY

At an inquiry into the riding of Splendid Man, jockey Mahadia was asked why he over-restrained his mount on a few occasions when already in the 2nd position as per his instructions. Jockey Mahadia explained that he did not want to improve his position on the outside of Fire Practice so as not to cause a cut-throat. After consideration, jockey Mahadia was found guilty under Rule 161 (f) in that he without good cause over-restrained his mount on a few occasions from shortly after the start to the 800 metres, thus not riding to the satisfaction of the Stewards. Jockey Mahadia was suspended from riding in races for two race meetings. When questioned about the running and riding of Sugar King, trainer A. Perdrau said that he had instructed his jockey to make use of his good draw and lead or be in second position. Jockey Naiko confirmed those instructions. When asked whether he would not have been better inspired when his horse started racing fiercely from the

1300 metres to take it out and quicken the pace so that the horse would settle, he stated that he was a bit concerned by the horse staying the 1500 metres. He added that he was also afraid that someone else would have taken his position had he moved forward prematurely, so he decided to stay where he was and settle his horse, which he eventually did. Trainer Perdrau confirmed that on the day it was the best way to ride the horse. Their explanations were accepted.

■ RACE 5 ? THE SUPERTOTE GOLDEN TROPHY

At the start, Go The Roman and Maison De Paris were slow out both losing about one length. At an inquiry into the running and riding of Ubusuku, Mr. Allet

explained that he had instructed his jockey to race close to the leaders and set an even pace and move from the 600 metres. Jockey Teeha was asked why shortly after the start he did not settle the horse on the fence behind Have Mercy instead of taking it out and racing on the outside of Have Mercy for the major part of the race. He was also asked why he asked his horse for an effort near the 1500 metres and again near the 1000 metres. Jockey Teeha stated that after settling behind Have Mercy the latter slowed the pace, requiring him to take his horse out to avoid its heels. He further stated that he had to urge his horse on two occasions because it had dropped the bit. After deliberation, jockey Teeha was found guilty of a charge under Rule 161 (f) in that after a regular pace had been set and having required an effort of his mount on two occasions, at about the 1500 metres and near the 1000 metres, he without good cause, prematurely urged his horse on as from the 600 metres, thereby not riding to the satisfaction of the Stewards. Jockey Teeha was suspended from riding in races for two race meetings, this suspension to be served concurrently with the one incurred in the sixth race.

■ RACE 6 ? THE SUPERTOTE OFF-COURSE TROPHY

Shortly after the start, Da Lad was cramped for room and had to be eased when Intsu shifted out and Champ In Action shifted in and was brushed by Da Lad on its hindquarter. Near the 1300 metres Umzinto, when being eased off the heels of Intsu, threw its head up in the air over a short distance. From the 400 metres For Keeps had a tendency to hang out. At an inquiry into an incident, jockey Teeha (Da Lad) pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 161 (c) in that near the 300 metres he carelessly took his mount out, resulting in Umzinto on his outside being taken out and having to be checked off the heels of War Games. Jockey Teeha was suspended from riding in races for one race meeting.

■ RACE 7 ? THE SUPERTOTE RED RIBBON TROPHY

Jockeys Y. Emamdee and Boutanive were stood down by the Club?s Doctor and were replaced by jockeys V. Naiko and H. Rawa on Vigliodor and Catullus respectively. Near the 300 metres Stormy Front, which had attempted a run into a narrow gap between Vigliodor and National Trust, had to be eased when the gap closed. At an inquiry into an incident, jockey Woodworth (National Trust) pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 161 (c) in that approaching from the 200 metres he carelessly allowed his mount to shift in and near the 100 metres Stormy Front on his inside was cramped for room and had to be checked and shortly brushed Vigliodor on its inside. Jockey Woodworth was fined Rs 30,000. Approaching the 100 metres Orace Barfoot was taken in off the heels of Vigliodor and from thereon was held up for a run behind Cameron James. Near the 100 metres, Imperious Caesour had to be taken out off the heels of Crimson Gown in order to obtain a clear run. Crimson Gown hung in in the final straight.

■ RACE 8 ? THE H. MARC WIEHE PLATE

Jockeys Y. Emamdee and Boutanive were stood down by the Club?s Doctor and were replaced by jockeys S. Rama and S. Mahadia on Collect The Cash and Smuggler respectively. At the start, Dancing Joshua was slow out, losing about one length and shortly after was eased when cramped for room between Fortunate Act and Smuggler. From the 1000 metres, Dancing Joshua started racing fiercely, was taken out off the heels of Cross Patch and raced wide from then onwards. From the 500 metres Link-Up started to hang out and near the 400 metres jockey Herholdt gave it two smacks with the whip resulting in the horse going out further. Near the 300 metres jockey Herholdt changed his whip from the right to the left hand. He was told that in similar circumstances he was expected to change whip from right to left hand sooner than he did on this occasion.
