<B>Upgrade the pavements</B>

I wish to bring the following to the attention of the Lord Mayor Hon Reza Issack and to Minister of Social Security, Hon Sheila Bappoo.

They should consider as priority the upgrading of pavements in busy areas in Port Louis. At a time when we are talking about branding of Mauritius, it is a real shame that the pavement at Lisley Geoffroy St is in such a decrepit state! Hundreds of tourists and investors use this street to go to the Immigration Office for their residence permits. Thousands of state pensioners, a large proportion of whom consist of the elderly and the disabled, use this pavement to come to Astor Court to collect their pension. Many have been unfortunate to slip, stumble upon and fall down on this uneven surface which seems to have been through a war.

On the other side, even the entrance to the parking of the Court encroaches upon the pavement, presenting a hazard for pedestrians, but who cares! To add insult to injury, everyday, police vehicles ferrying prisoners to court are parked?on the pavement, causing serious obstruction and inconvenience to pedestrians. Police officers in the area turn a blind eye to these vehicles parked on the pavement and on yellow lines, but are very aggressive to motocyclists and other civil vehicles stopping momentarily to alight passengers in this area.

Regarding the waiting area at Astor Court, it is a shame that most benches there are damaged have no back rest, which mean people, mostly the elderly and some disabled, are made to sit awkwardly for long hours! Our senior citizens deserve a minimum of comfort.

Nous, les habitants du morcellement Le Printemps II, sommes extrêmement soucieux de l?envergure des développements en cours aux abords de nos localités.

Nous avons beaucoup souffert pendant plusieurs mois de la poussière due aux épierrement des champs pour la fondation des usines en cours à Pointe-aux-Sables. Nous en souffrons encore aujourd?hui et nos infrastructures laissent toujours des traces de cette épaisse couche de poussière. Notre santé et celle de nos enfants ont aussi fait des frais due à cette vague de poussière.
