Why not the moon?

I read Raj Meetarbhan?s editorial on Rodrigues (oops, freudian slip) I meant Tromelin.

So, now that someone, in another country, thousands of miles away, has taken a unilateral decision to attach another part of the world, to its own territory and, passed his own laws to that effect. Does that make it an uncontestable fait accompli - set in stone? If that be true, then, the Government of Comoros could legislate the south side of the Moon as its territwar-doutre-space. Maybe, Nauru could even pass laws attaching a bit of the Antarctic to its own.

Why doesn't France pass such laws to annex Indochina? Because she can't! Then why does she legislate to steal Tromelin? Because she can - with impunity! After millions of years of so called evolution, this tired old cliche tells it as it is: might is always right!

Grateful for the care at Cardiac Centre

As someone, who has unfortunately sufficient cardiac problems some years back I have had ample opportunity to get a treatment in a few hospitals in Mauritius and around the world over the past fifteen years. I must admit that my health condition did not prevent me from enjoying a normal life ? an encouragement to others who may be suffering similar health problems. There is hope for people like us.

Having an MI some years back I was saved by the Cardiac Centre at Candos thanks to a brilliant young cardiologist at that time who acted promptly with mush care and compassion. I was then referred to the Cardiac Centre of Pamplemousses.

My experience of the Cardiac Centre of Pamplemousses, as a patient has been very positive. As a doctor, Dr Sunil Gunness is extremely competent,polite, caring, helpful and always strives for perfection. I have witnessed patients thanking him endlessly and especially bestowing upon him ?ashirwaad? blessing for saving their lives. I am a fervent believer in our creator and I think all these blessings from ?mended hearts? have had an everlasting positive aura around him and his close ones.

So many persons I know who have received treatment at the Cardiac Centre of Pamplemousses, are extremely impressed not only by Dr Sunil Gunness and his fellow doctors but also by the nurses and other supporting staff. The medical care, attention and morale support from the whole team (especially in the ICU) is excellent in quality and medical facilities can be compared with other top centres in the world. I, myself, had an opportunity to be treated in Europe and South Africa and the standard of care and treatment is alike.

The majority of us who have been treated by Dr Sunil Gunness and his team at the Cardiac Centre of Pamplemousses are eternally grateful for the specialised care given to us to save our lives. May God bless them for the good work that they are doing.

In our humble opinion these dedicated people who are doing a noble profession should be left alone to carry out the commendable work that they are doing for such a long time, unhindered by petty issues from others who may have a hidden agenda not in the interest of patients. Such good work cannot be undermined by those who do not understand the extremely important objectives of the Centre. Otherwise we are going to accentuate the brain drain in our country which will eventually lead to substandard medical care given to patients.

Suggestion à la MBC

Comme tous les soirs je m?assieds devant mon poste de télé pour suivre les actualités télévisées, mais ce soir j?ai oublié qu?on était mardi et que le mardi il ne faut surtout pas suivre les actualités car? il n?y en pas. On nous gave du résumé (qui dure plus de 45 minutes parfois), de l?Assemblée nationale avec les éternels ?Le ministre X a posé telle question à laquelle a répondu le Premier ministre ou autre délégué Y? chacun allant de son entrain et arrogance avec de grands gestes de la main, le tout frisant le ridicule. Le comble de tout ce soir (mardi 15 mai 2007), il a aussi fallu supporté le manque de respect d?un de nos ministres, en l?occurrence Monsieur James Burty David qui se tenait derrière le Premier ministre et qui, pendant que ce dernier répondait à une question, n?avait d?autre chose à faire que de lire le journal français, Express Magazine. Franchement où va-t-on ?

Enfin bref pour revenir à nos moutons, ma suggestion à la MBC serait qu?il fasse une émission spéciale après le journal télévisé à laquelle il consacrerait tout le temps qu?il pourra plaire à nos dirigeants pour pouvoir s?admirer en différé et de là en tirer les leçons qu?ils voudront bien, afin d?essayer d?améliorer leur image et éducation et de par là même, améliorer l?image du Parlement mauricien aux yeux des étrangers qui oseraient suivre une telle bouffonnerie.

?Une très grave injustice?

Quelle différence entre ce gouvernement et le gouvernement que j?ai combattu en 2000. Aucune, inflation galopante, corruption , appauvrissement de la population, manipulation et trafic d?influence !

A court terme le gouvernement nie les problèmes que pose l?inflation des prix sur les produits de base, à plus long terme, ne prend aucune mesure réelle, autre qu?un aimable verbiage de fête de paroisse, pour mettre un terme à la très grave injustice qui frappe le peuple mauricien de la classe ouvrière.

Il est de plus en plus manifeste que le fossé entre ceux qui décident et ceux qui paient le prix de ces décisions, de cette insécurité, de cet appauvrissement et en subissent les conséquences ne fait que s'élargir.

Il convient de savoir si ce gouvernement recèle les qualités que l?on attend généralement d?une orientation ?travailliste?. Si l?on prend le point de vue de la corruption et des copinages, aucun doute, la réponse est OUI. Non seulement il ne l?a pas réduite pas mais il l?augmente ! Si on prend le point de vue de la défense de la qualité de vie des Mauriciens, la réponse est NON. Ce gouvernement a une vision méprisante des problèmes dont souffrent beaucoup de Mauriciens, notamment en matière de salaire, de pouvoir d?achat, de qualité de vie. Ce qui n?empêche pas ce gouvernement d?afficher d?une manière éhontée sa richesse dictatoriale, avec des voitures de luxes, de somptueuses résidences, de pharaonique voyage suivit de sa cohorte, tout cela payé avec le labeur du peuple mauricien qu?il prétende défendre !

Le peuple en à assez de ces emplâtres sur une jambe de bois, il est grand temps de s'attaquer de front aux vrais problèmes de Maurice et des Mauriciens.
