Storms, floods kill nine in eastern Turkey
Storms and flooding in eastern Turkey have killed nine people, local officials said yesterday. Six people were killed and two more were still missing after severe flooding in mountainous Agri province near the Iranian border, where melting snows swelled river waters. In nearby Van province, a two-year old child died when landslides triggered by heavy rain demolished a house. Separately, two girls were killed and one other person was injured after being struck by lightning in the region.
