?Meals from different traditions tend to influence each other?
During my career I have been posted in different countries like Hong-Kong, the Philippines, the United Kingdom. And, as a well travelled manager, one of the things I like to discover is the culinary traditions. Sadly I don?t cook myself, as I consider cooking as an art that deserves perfection. But from my little experience in Mauritius, I conclude that food is very good here. Whereas in the UK we can almost find everything, if you want speciality, you have to look for it.
In Mauritius diversity is just there and whatever their offerings, meals from different traditions tend to influence each other. At the same time I am quite amused by what seems to act like a binding ingredient, chili, common to almost every dish!
I find it wonderful to enjoy the somewhat old world charm that qualifies the à la carte presentation of food here. We enjoy with all the family here the pleasure to eat in the veranda. It has a formal informal character, a semi-outdoor feeling just in tune with the infinite serenity that procures the quality of life here.
In England, it would only be possible to savour the food in such conditions in the peak of summer, whereas Hong-Kong is sometimes too hectic to feel the goodness of such moments.
Here, at times, it becomes challenging to find the fresh ingredients so easily accessible in hotels! But having the handy snacks that you call gato pima, that is in taste like a tiny mix of Indian traditions, is a treat. And it gives you the will to know better your beautiful country, which, as an emerging market enjoys excellent infrastructure, not so much traffic problems and a very beautiful expanse of nature.
