Political overview
If you listen to the diatribes the politicians direct at each other, you would think that an all-out war has broken out. Please do not be fooled because the so-called enemies will be brothers in arms tomorrow. We have seen such a scenario before and no doubt we will see it again. The recent verbal attack of the leader of the Labour Party on the leader of the MMM was so virulent that you could have well believed that they cannot stand the sight of each other, yet the leader of the MMM was instrumental in the original enthronisation of our current prime minister and they could well be united again at the next general elections.
As far as l?Union nationale is concerned, they are yet to leave the starting blocks and, when they do, they might find the first hurdle hard to negotiate. Their position on the political scene is the same as that of all the other political parties, which are mere appendages to the Labour party currently and can be ditched at a moment?s notice without any serious consequences. I suppose that is why they constantly praise the leader of the Social Alliance because one word out of place could see them being thrown off the gravy train. So do not expect any act of bravado from them because they know where the bread is buttered. I cannot understand why the leader of the MMM is shouting for ?elections anticipées? because firstly there is no earthly reason why the government should go to the polls as they have currently a healthy majority. Secondly if they are currently unpopular, why would they choose to face any elections? Thirdly, the MMM has yet to find the potential prime minister with the required profile. So I feel that the leader of the MMM is whistling in the wind. The prime minister has several experts in public relations and communications, yet some messages from the government are not always coherent, the fall-outs from the last budget are typical examples. Should we expect the same this year? At least all the politicians give us a good laugh.
