The Rotary Club of Grand-Bay is very satisfied with the outcome of their careers? education fair held during the weekend at the Swami Vivekananda conference centre. Great Britain and Australia were among the stands that students visited the most but the surprise rather came from the new fields that seem to be of interest to students. ?We were quite surprised to see that many students were interested in atypical fields such as veterinary studies,? comments Dinesh Gajeelee from the Rotary Club of Grand-Bay.

The latest fair was actually the 15th edition of the event for the organisers who are starting to get used to it. Therefore, they are in a position to see that ?more people came on Sunday than on Saturday but that met our expectations, as the same thing occurs every year?. In fact, Friday was reserved for students who had tickets from the ministry of Education while Saturday and Sunday attracted pupils with their parents. ?Many pupils who came during the weekend were actually quite precise in their requests. Many had already come with their schools on Friday and were able to go directly to the stands that could be of interest to them,? states the member of the Rotary Club.

In fact, there was a lower number of visitors compared to last year but ?this is due to the fact that last year we had three days dedicated to students while this year we had only one day for practical reasons. The majority of pupils were in the Upper Sixth, as they were the main targets of the universities present?.

Although there were more than ten countries represented, the main destinations for future students remain Australia and Great Britain. ?It is quite astonishing as these destinations are quite expensive. But education has its price and I suppose parents are ready to make an effort in order to offer the best to their children. Moreover, there are many more facilities than there were a few years ago and students themselves cam repay any loans they incur when they come back,? says Dinesh Gajeelee. This may indeed make the decision to go to these destinations easier for some.
