?People here are more dedicated to religion than Europeans?

?I have been impressed how religion has such a big importance in people?s lives. I think it is very good for many reasons. I come from Germany and I must say that, in contrast with people from European countries, Mauritian people give more importance to religion. In fact, in Europe, people go to the church but only on special occasions, such as Easter, when their children get baptised, when they have to attend a wedding and so on. I think it is because people do not find time to go to church. Here in Mauritius, people try their best to find that time.
Regarding religious issues, I have been struck by how people respect each other?s religions. Working in a hotel where there are more than 500 employees, I can see how they respect their own religious beliefs. They find time to go church, temple and so on. They even respect the times when they must be fasting and they know exactly when there are special festivals. Furthermore, I have noticed that, in the morning, some people find time to do their prayers before going to work. This is incredible! Sometimes I have colleagues, family members or friends talking about such things. I feel interested whenever I hear such things.
As far as I have seen, I believe that people?s religious beliefs have created a balance in their personal lives. In a way, they are more relaxed and more prepared to face difficult times. Lots of people have difficulties in their lives, and they seem psychologically stronger to overcome them.
On the other hand, as in every country, there are some conflicts arising between religions; but in Mauritius we do not see this type of conflict. And some problems can be sorted out through dialogue. Religion should bring people together. So far, I have noticed that it is mostly the case in this country. But coming on back to the fact that people are devoted to their religion, I admit that I am starting to inculcate myself those habits a bit more and my religious beliefs are becoming stronger!?
