What you should know ?
● What happened on Pereybère beach early this month? Since 6th March there have been fights between people renting deckchairs and sunshades to tourists on the beach. But things got worse a week ago, when Ahmed Hussein Deebeely ? who allegedly is the only one allowed to perform such activities ? was attacked. But, more generally, there is no real permit to regulate such activities on Mauritian beaches.
● How come there are so many operators then? In fact, all those involved in this business hold a beach hawkers? permit ? like the one given to those selling food on the beach. To put some order in this business, the ministry of Tourism is working on new regulations to establish the period during which a permit holder can work on the beach and on which part of the beach.
● Do tourists really enjoy such a service on the beach? There are mixed feelings over the rental of deckchairs and sunshades. While some might appreciate their comfort on the beach, others like to feel the change of scene when they come to Mauritius and prefer to live with the basics. However, there is one certainty: those who were there during the fights between the ?businessmen? in Péreybère might not come back again!
