The ministry of Tourism wants to show the French market that chikungunya is behind us. As tourist arrivals started to go up again in July, the authorities want to follow this trend and attract French tourists again. A delegation is going to France in early September for a spectacular road show that will end up with the TopResa fair where the minister of Tourism, Xavier-Luc Duval, has promised an “exceptional presence by Mauritius”. The country has regained confidence as statistics have been quite good in July on big markets – except for France which still needs to be convinced.

<B>Mir’s murderers free until trial</B>

Senior Puisne Judge Bernard Sik Yuen and Justice Paul Lam Shang Leen have rejected the request of the Mir family. They want to quash the decision of the Director of Public Prosecution who has ruled that Mujeeb Mir’s murderers be released on bail pending trial. Even though both judges said they understood the pain caused to the family they said they had no legal grounds to prevent the murderers from being bailed out. The victim was beaten, then taken to Grand-Bay where he was beaten again and run over by his own car. The murderers finally put fire to the car while the businessman was fighting for his life.

<B>Bright future for textile</B>

Francois Woo believes in the future of the textile industry and you can tell! The Compagnie Mauricienne de Textile (CMT) will invest Rs 150 million in the development of its human resources within the next two years. This is what he announced at the official opening of the re-engineering fashion course, a training programme in textile that he has set up in collaboration with the University of Mauritius. The CMT has committed to employ all the students (about 150) at the end of their studies.
