I must say that Jules Jerret’s reaction to my article “Stumble, Mumble, Fumble” [ July 11 2006] was truly a «jewel». Jerret seems to have taken the position that I was putting Mauritians, returning or otherwise, down. Hello? Did he even read the article?

Dear Jerret. Relax. While I can’t dissuade your negative assumptions, I can offer a rebuttal to your completely unfounded and misconstrued perceptions of what I was trying to say. Nowhere in the article do I refer to any Mauritians as stupid or a nuisance. If Mauritius had nothing to offer, do you think that there would be such a phenomenon known as “Returning Mauritians”?

I believe you are out of touch with reality. If you are trying to argue that Returning Mauritians, after 30 years of being out of the country, can simply assimilate into Mauritian life without any humorous side effects, then I simply have to disagree with you.

You seem to have the impression that Mauritians need to be defended, on the contrary, what they don’t need is help from condescending bleeding hearts such as yourself who seem stuck in the 60s. You sound like you want to fight for a cause, but what cause? Mauritians can stand on their own two feet, without you thinking that they need you.
