■ RACE 1 ? THE PONDICHERY CUP

The Club?s Veterinary Surgeon reported that Intrusion was lame and was unfit to race. Consequently, the horse was withdrawn at 5.45 p.m. on Friday. As a result, all bets on this horse were ordered to be refunded and betting with bookmakers was re-opened. Trainer A. Perdrau was advised that Intrusion would need a veterinary clearance before being allowed to race again. At the start Man?s Man jumped outwards, brushing Bite The Bullet who in turn brushed Credit Line. Link-up jumped inwards, resulting in On My Oath, which was slightly slow out on its inside, having to be eased and shortly after Credit Line being inconvenienced and having to be eased. Approaching the 1200 metres Peaceful Hero, which was racing green, had a tendency to shift out off the running rail and at the same time Peters Crown shifted in whilst being settled, resulting in Peaceful Hero being slightly cramped for room over a short distance. Jockey Whitmore was shown the video of the incident and told to exercise care at all times. Credit Line raced wide on the first turn. At the 600 metres Dutori shifted in and brushed the running rail. Passing the 300 metres On My Oath was slightly cramped for room when Peters Crown shifted in despite its jockey?s attempt to straighten it. Over the concluding stages Dutori had a tendency to hang in and had to be straightened. On My Oath, which was following, had to be taken out for a clear run.

Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from Brassy Badger, Man?s Man, On My Oath and Tabasheer prior to the race and from Dutori after the race.

■ RACE 2 ? THE LOUIS PHILIPPE BOULLE CUP

At the start Dane?s Castle jumped outwards. At an inquiry into an incident, jockey Boutanive (Twoicee) pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 161 (c) in that approaching the 1300 metres he carelessly allowed his mount to shift in, resulting in Golden Millenium, on his inside, being cramped for room, having to be checked, stumbling badly and nearly dislodging its rider and losing its position. Jockey Boutanive was fined Rs 20,000. Approaching the 1100 metres, when the pace slowed, Fleeting Moment started to race fiercely and had to be taken out off the heels of Smuggler. Approaching the 300 metres Dane?s Castle was held up for a run off the heels of Golden Millenium and had to be eased over some distance. Twoicee had a tendency to hang in over the final 100 metres and had to be straightened. The Club?s Veterinary Surgeon reported that Twoicee suffered a cut to its off hind hock. In view of this, trainer S. Ramdin was told that Twoicee would need a veterinary clearance before being allowed to race again.

Routine urine specimen was taken for analysis from Twoicee after the race.

■ RACE 3 ? THE CITY OF LONDON CUP

At the start Bang On Time jumped inwards, was slow out and Rebus stood flat-footed, both losing about one length. Noble Dancer and Salute The Star half-reared. Crimson Gown raced wide throughout. At the 1100 metres Bang On Time started racing fiercely and approaching the 900 metres was taken out off the heels of St. Nicholas. Bang On Time jumped the crossing at the 450 metres. Near the 200 metres, Rebus was taken in off the heels of Hot Seal in order to obtain a clear run and from the 150 metres hung in badly and could not be properly assisted. The Club?s Veterinary Surgeon reported that Hot Seal was not striding out on both fore legs. In view of this report, trainer Ramapatee Gujadhur was told that Hot Seal would need a veterinary clearance before being allowed to race again. When questioned about his handling of Crimson Gown, Jockey Herholdt explained that shortly after the start, being caught wide, he had elected to let his mount move forward in order to obtain a better position on the outside of Bang On Time but near the 1000 metres when the pace slowed, the latter started racing fiercely with Jockey Whitmore having trouble to control his mount, so he elected to take Crimson Gown out so as to give enough room to jockey Whitmore resulting in Crimson Gown racing wide from then on. He added that from the 600 metres, when the pace quickened his horse being a middle distance horse could not accelerate with the rest of the field and remained one paced to the finish. His explanations were noted.

■ RACE 4 ? THE PRINCESS ALEXANDRA CUP

At the start Shinealight threw its head up, was slow out and was slow into stride. Upon entering the final straight, Rambo Rouge was taken out off the heels of Game Lodge and Telaroyal in order to obtain a clear run and, over the concluding stages, had a tendency to hang in. At an inquiry into the riding of Game Lodge, Jockey Boutanive pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 161 (f) in that being the rider of horse Game Lodge, from the 1500 to 1300 metres, he without good cause failed to take his mount closer to running rails when in a position to do so, thus not riding to the satisfaction of the Racing Stewards. He was fined Rs 5,000.

■ RACE 5 ? L?ALBATROSS COUPE DU CENT-CINQUANTENAIRE

At the start Altaturk, Clifton King and Joshua Tree were slow out and Young Warrior jumped with its head up, all losing about one length. Cherry Bite and Have Mercy jumped inwards, brushing World Focus and Germany On respectively. Approaching the 1300 metres, Young Warrior which was racing fiercely, threw its head up over some distance when being settled. Cherry Bite raced wide on the first turn. At an inquiry into an incident, jockey Rama (Raise A Ratoon) pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 161 (c) in that passing the 1300 metres he carelessly allowed his mount to shift in, resulting in Germany On and Fashion Editor being cramped for room and having to be checked. Have Mercy which was following, was slightly inconvenienced and had to be taken out. He was fined Rs 20,000. Germany On was held up for a run from the 400 metres until entering the final straight. From the 400 metres, Young Warrior was taken out for a clear run and made the turn in the final straight very wide. Joshua Tree raced wide throughout. In the final straight Clifton King had to be taken in off the heels of Have Mercy in order to obtain a clear run.

■ RACE 6 ? THE PIERRE NOËL CUP

At the start Splendid Man jumped inwards, brushing Tabascorez, To The Line jumped outwards, and was slow out. Shortly after entering the final straight, Tabascorez had to be taken in off the heels of Coronation Cup in order to obtain a clear run. From the 500 metres, Sterling Silver was taken out for a clear run and raced wide from thereon. From the 400 metres, Cable Guy was held up for a run behind Splendid Man and was taken out off its heels approaching the 300 metres. The Club?s Veterinary Surgeon reported that Splendid Man bled from both nostrils. In view of this report and, acting under Rule 166 (2) (c), trainer B. Gujadhur was advised that Splendid Man has been suspended for one month and will need a veterinary clearance before being allowed to race again. An inquiry was held into the running and riding of Fort Danzig, after taking evidence from Trainer V. Allet and Jockey Rawa, Trainer Allet pleaded guilty to a charge under Rules 47 (2) (f) and 49 A (b) in that being the trainer of Fort Danzig, after having given instructions to the jockey of the said horse which were accepted by the Stewards, he without the Stewards? knowledge, shortly before the race, modified these instructions which were considered improper. He was fined Rs 10,000. Jockey Rawa was found guilty of a charge under Rule 161 (f) in that being the rider of horse Fort Danzig, after having found himself further back than anticipated just after the start, he, from the 1300 metres, without good cause urged his mount to go into the lead which he did near the 900 metres, thereafter he allowed his horse to run freely, never giving it a chance to settle up to the final turn, resulting in it compounding badly in the final straight, thus not riding to the satisfaction of the Racing Stewards. He was fined Rs 10,000.

■ RACE 7 ? THE PAUL LANGLOIS CUP

At the start Mathieu and Jazz Band were slow out, both losing about one length. From the 450 metres Mathieu was taken out for a clear run and raced wide from thereon and in the final straight, had a tendency to hang in proving difficult to be properly assisted. A subsequent Veterinary examination of Mathieu revealed that the horse was not striding out after the race. In view of this, trainer S. Ramdin was told that this horse would need a veterinary clearance before being allowed to race again. Shortly after entering the final straight Jazz Band was taken in off the heels of Double Lock, which had shifted out under pressure, in order to obtain a clear run.

Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from Double Lock, Leatherman and Golden Rambo prior to the race and from Borzov after the race.

■ RACE 8 ? THE DERBY O?GILL PLATE

At the start Red Leonard and Got The Pace were slow out, losing about one and two lengths respectively. From shortly after the start to approaching the 1300 metres, Grosvenor Square raced fiercely, throwing its head up when being settled. French Lightning raced wide from the start to the 1100 metres and over the final 400 metres. Passing the 1000 metres, when the pace slowed, Sparkling Lad started to race fiercely and had to be eased off the heels of Going Down, Red Leonard which was following, was slightly inconvenienced and also had to be eased. Got The Pace raced wide from the 500 metres. Passing the 100 meters, Sparkling Lad, which had a tendency to hang in, was straightened and taken out off the heels of Masterfax in order to obtain a clear run.
