Almost three years after the tragic rape and murder of Nadine Dantier, the enquiry is being boosted with a letter recently sent to the Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT). The letter written by an inmate of Beau-Bassin prison points at a certain Kewin. But the police are examining it closely in every detail. Even though they are enquiring into the so-called Kewin, they are also showing interest in the writer of the letter and his co-detainee, a habitual criminal.

Both the habitual criminal and the writer of the letter will soon be questioned by the MCIT. They had already been questioned soon after Nadine Dantier’s murder but had refused to do the DNA tests – which made the police even more suspicious.

<B>Real suspects or revenge?</B>

But it seems the police themselves are quite confused over these new developments. It may take some time before they make it clear whether there are real suspects or if this is a way for these detainees to take revenge on one another. The police also suspect that some people may have an interest in sowing confusion in this case to prevent them from doing their job properly.

The writer of the letter is a 50 year-old detainee, who is in prison for burglary around Albion. In his letter, he asserts that Kewin told him how he killed Nadine Dantier with a certain Jimmy. He explains that he was accommodating Kewin in a garage after he committed a crime in Albion and it was only afterwards that the latter told him what he had done. The author states that Kewin told him he was in love with Nadine Dantier but he killed her because she was shouting too much as he was raping her.

<B>Crucial testimonies</B>

Even if such testimonies are considered crucial in this case, the police think this could as well be revenge between prisoners, as the so-called Kewin has involved the writer of the letter in fifteen cases of theft. But the MCIT believes there is something behind it: “We have good reason to believe that Nadine Dantier’s murderer is at Beau-Bassin prison.”

With these new developments, the enquiry could well take a new turn. The MCIT heard that the third suspect had revealed his guilt to the prison officers. This will have to be cleared up within the next few days. But the investigators do not dismiss the possibility that one person who knew Nadine quite well could be involved in her mysterious death…
