Eric Mård is the kind of person who likes cultural things such as music, theatre and gastronomy. Moreover, he is fond of reading and has a special appreciation for wine. Regarding sports, he is a member of the Hash House Harriers. Through this hobby, Eric has explored some of the island?s most beautiful sites. Besides, he thinks that the Hash House Harriers has allowed him to see beautiful spots that Mauritians are not even aware of. ?There are some secret places in this island that are beautiful. Seeing such places is quite an emotional experience. It is just as if you looking at an art object, or listening to a love song. It really touches you deep inside.?

One thing that has always fascinated Eric is travelling to discover new places, new cultures and new people. Actually he has been a non-stop traveller since his youth. He was born in Denmark in 1955. His father was Swedish whereas his mother was French. Soon after his birth he started travelling as his father was involved in air transport. He spent most of his time in his native country, for some 15 years, and did his secondary education there. Then he started his professional career and moved around the world.

Because he loved travelling, he decided to work for Maersk and he has done so in 10 different countries. But in between, in 1978, he went back to Denmark to spend some time. This is when he met the woman he married: Merete. The couple has three children: Carina 27, Stefan, 25 and Selina,19. Two of them are already married. Eric is not a grandfather yet. But he is impatient to become one.

With all the countries he has visited, Eric has learnt several languages. The ones he is more familiar with are Danish, French, English, German, Swedish and even some Spanish. ?If I was to use one word to describe myself, I would say: ?vagabond?. This is due to the fact that I keep on moving from one country to another.?

After spending five years here, Eric has a lot to say about Mauritius. He recognizes that, during his whole professional career, he has never seen young adults so motivated to work and so full of capabilities. He also finds there is a real potential regarding the professional level. On the personal side, he has noticed that Mauritians are very welcoming. And, according to him, this could be a real advantage.

However, the managing director of Maersk has other plans ahead. In the coming days, he is leaving Mauritius for Sri Lanka. He admits that he is reluctant to go. ?I do not wish to go. In fact, I would like to spend some more time here. Unfortunately my job does not allow me to do so. I have to move on. But I will be missing Mauritius a lot. I will miss the people and their kindness. What I will really miss will definitely be Mauritian beer, more precisely Blue Marlin, which I think is a world-class beer.?

Eric has left so many countries happily looking forward to new adventures and challenges. For the first time ever, he feels sad about leaving. But he is confident that he will come back to Mauritius soon. Even if it is not for work, at least for holidays. But he remains optimistic that Sri Lanka will be another good experience?
