Ritesh Bheemul died on Friday morning, a few hours after being admitted to SSRN hospital in Pamplemousses, following slash wounds in his neck and stab wounds in his abdomen. His uncle and other members of his family had found his body around 4 am near his own house. He was bleeding a lot and spitting blood while he was trying to explain what had happened. A few minutes after, he lost consciousness.

The Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT) and the CID of Piton are taking seriously the theory that a family member may be involved and they have been questioning his relatives. On the day of the crime, they interviewed two relatives of Ritesh Bheemul, one of whom was his aunt. She is suspected of having had an affair with him, which went wrong. But she has so far denied having had any extramarital relationship with her nephew.

However, the autopsy by Dr Sudesh Kumar Gungadin concluded that Ritesh Bheemul?s death was the result of the slash wounds in his throat.

Ritesh Bheemul, 27, was a bachelor working at a shoe factory in Baie-du-Tombeau. He was living in a house with his brother and two cousins. According to some sources, the relationship between them was rather tense. Some of his relatives say that he had a bad temper. Moreover, Ritesh had suffered from epilepsy in the past and was a heavy drinker. Apparently, each afternoon, after work, he used to go a local bar to get his rum. The usual customers say he was a good guy and had never thought of marrying.

The young man was cremated on Saturday. Some MCIT officers believe his death was a suicide. According to them, he used a kitchen knife to inflict wounds on himself.

The obvious reason for believing this is the fact that Ritesh had recently been repeating: ?I will die this year!? However, he did not specify whether he had been threatened by someone or if he just wanted to put an end to his life.
