Thank you, Mr Cunningham
Mr Cunningham, you have recently been the talk of the town,- even though we all knew about you before-ever since you started ?cleaning the kitchen? three years ago. Unfortunately, we all kept quiet and never voiced out publicly our appreciation of your good work and courage, peacefully preferring to reorganize the world in the plush comfort of our social dinners.
Only now that we are shocked by your unexpected resignation and your outcry against the lack of support from the civil society and from the NGOs at large, do we realize how accommodating we have been: wishing silently that you would be successful in your risky mission.
First of all, thank you for reminding us all of our individual responsibilities in the fight against all the evils afflicting our society and country. Now more than ever, we need this clear-sightedness and courage. Let?s hope this helps us to improve.
More importantly, thank you for your outstanding performance and determination in cleaning and organizing this filthy kitchen that used to be the customs department. Thank you for your determination and courage in identifying and facing up to those responsible for degrading our institutions. Thank you for daring to challenge unrelentlessly the institutionalized corruption network.
Whatever your decision may be, to stay or to go, we wish to assure you that your stay amongst us will be a landmark and that the customs house will never be the same. The standards have been set for what should be a clean and efficient customs department.
Finally, I am sure that you will be faithfully remembered by all those silent, loyal and honest customs officers for having identified, recognized and allowed them to work in dignity and in peace with their conscience.
