Lalit forum on economy

The political party Lalit is organising a debate on the economy on Saturday 20th as from 3 p.m. The public is invited and will be able to express their views on an economic alternative. Alain Ah-Vee, a member of Lalit, explains, ?The government has expressed its intention of coming forward with an alternative economy; the question is ?what concrete actions will it take to achieve such an alternative??? Rada Kistnasamy will preside over the forum. Lindsay Collen will talk on the economic and social crisis while Ram Seegobin will insist on the role of the working class in the transition to an economic alternative.

Raddhoa back on the scene

One of the most famous police officers is back in business: Hurrydeo Raddhoa has been appointed at the head of the Central Investigation Department of Curepipe and promoted to the post of assistant superintendent. After being transferred for four years to the Special Mobile Force (SMF) garage, Raddhoa thinks it?s only fair that he has been asked to come back. He intends to solve crimes which have remained unpunished so far ? his biggest challenge being the Vanessa Lagesse case.

Battered woman in a coma

Even though Vijyotee Nackchejee was covered by a protection order, her husband, Sudheer, came to her house and set fire to her. She is now in a coma in hospital. He has been arrested and provisionally charged with attempted murder.

The couple had been married for 15 years but Sudheer was in the habit of beating his wife, according to the latter?s relatives and neighbours. The police were looking for him three weeks before the incident because his wife had lodged a complaint concerning domestic violence.

She had also asked for a divorce.

A third hotel in St Félix?

The Integrated Resort Scheme (IRS) in St Félix is taking shape. After the five-star Shanti Ananda and the St Felix World Wide Resort, a new group (Kwavungu) has expressed its desire to build a three-star plus in St Félix by registering an Environment Impact Assessment. The Mirabel Beach Resort?s main target will be middle to high-income tourists from the German market but also from China, Poland and Slovakia. This is the sort of market the country has always aimed at.
