Many people came to express their sympathy to Rachelle Chung For Yuen’s family both at the funeral parlour - Kit Lock - and the funeral ceremony at St Louis cathedral in Port-Louis. Family, friends but also people who didn’t know her at all wanted to show solidarity with her relatives.

The presence of so many people at the funeral – whether they knew the victim or not – may also have been a way for many of showing their disapproval of the tragic terrorist acts that occurred in London three weeks ago… and of terrorism in general. Rachelle was among 56 victims who died in the terrorist blasts in the London tube on 7th July.

The funeral ceremony was moving, with several tributes paid by people who were very close to her. Her husband, Billy, described her as a “wonderful wife” while her brother-in-law recalled how generous and lively she was. Rachelle’s parents and in-laws were all deeply affected. Representatives of the government and of the opposition, as well as the president of the Republic, Sir Anerood Jugnauth, were present to pay a last tribute to Rachelle. Her body now lies at the Salines cemetery.
