<B> What are the living conditions of Cité La Cure squatters two weeks after their eviction? </B>

Many squatters, including young children, are still living in tents, which have been lent to them until they can find somewhere to live. Their living conditions are quite poor and we are trying to help them as much as we can. Some parents have sent their children to relatives’ homes so as to prevent any risk of illness until a permanent solution is found. We have shown, since their eviction from the National Housing Development Company’s houses, strong solidarity with them. The squatters must, however, realize that this situation is a temporary one and that they can’t live in those tents forever. They know that the government is working hard to find a suitable solution for them.

<B>What about the findings of the survey of the Trust Fund for the Integration of Vulnerable Groups, which reveals that the majority of the squatters earn more than Rs 5 000 monthly? </B>

The aim of this survey was to point out who, among the hundreds of homeless, needed short-term help. We have been told, on different occasions, that a small number of the squatters already own a house, which they rent to others. This is not the case for all the squatters. This survey will help the government to identify those who really need our help. We know about their problems and the government will do everything it can to assist them to get a house but they will have to wait a little bit. The government wants to respect all the procedures according to the law.
