Ruling on Tipo’s adoption pending

Tipo still doesn’t know who will take care of him in the future. The ruling was expected last Friday but Senior Puisne Judge Bernard Sik Yuen has postponed it for the 8th of July. Meanwhile, Tipo will remain with his grandparents as decided by judge Lam Shang Leen about ten days ago.

After the Aurdally couple obtained custody ofTipo, Marianne Alfred – who had taken care of the child since he was three months old– has been asking for his adoption to be cancelled. Tipo’s grandparents, Mahmood Carrim and Bibi Fazila Thoopany agree that Marianne should obtain custody. But Mahmad and Ameenah Aurdally do not agree and are asking the judge to reject the motion.

The Aurdallys expressed worries about the health and psychological consequences this affair could have on Tipo. “(…) The said child runs the risks of being exposed to harm, including physical, psychological, emotional and moral, and this may impair his health and normal development.” They assert that they only want to ensure that Tipo lives happily. “This adoption was done in his interest as we’ve been taking care of him.”

But the main problem is that Marianne Alfred also makes the same claims as she’s been taking care of the child. Tipo’s mother asked Marianne to take care of her child before she died and Marianne has done so. Although she admits that Tipo sometimes went to the Aurdallys, who have paid his school fees so far, she never thought they would try to obtain custody. She is determined to do everything within the law to keep Tipo with her…
