I would like to rectify the bit about ?the birth of the MMM?. I am not doing it for my personality cult because at my age it does not mean anything and I am miles way. Often, I have sat and watched the distortion of facts regarding the history of the MMM. Many have claimed to be the founder etc. I would like the truth to be said.

The Club des Etudiants was founded by Veenoo Mootien and I (Robin Punchoo) founded the Quatre - Bornes Students Association. Veenoo, a good friend of mine, came to see me, we merged under one banner ?CEM?. We were meeting at Tennyson College.

Then, Paul Berenger, just landed from Paris, came with the full influence of May 1968, join and started to talk about a common struggle between student and workers. Paul, after reading an article in ?Le Mauricien?, was talking about taking him on board with me in his house at Bernadin de St-Pierre; I went with Paul at Vacoas, Jooneed agreed to join us. The member of the CEM of the day disagreed completely with Paul?s idea.

After a big outburst, they left and shouted all kinds of names at Paul. People, who were left behind were Jooneed Jeeroobhurkhan, Dev Virahsawmy, Dhirish Balgobin, Sushil Kushiram, Paul Bérenger and myself Robin Punchoo. We formed a committee which lasted until Paul went and finished his studies in Bangor.

When we were kicked out of Tennyson College, Quatre- Bornes, because of the noise we made that night, I offered my brothers? College, City Of London College?.

After arranging a meeting between my cousin , HonSham Panchoo with Paul in my house, Sham gave us the go ahead. Then, we had everybody on your list and Amédée Darga, Peerally which led to the arrests of most of us including Paul in September 1969. Afterwards, We formed the first Executive Committee at Port Louis High School, Paul Bérenger, Heeralall Bhugaloo, Dev Virahsawmy, Jooneed Jerroobhurkhan , T. Ramkissoon , Sushil Khushiram, Ah Ken Wong and Robin Punchoo got elected.

Sushil and I were the two youngest on the committee.
