Cecilia Cubas Gusinsky was found dead on Wednesday underneath a house near the capital, nearly five months after she was kidnapped, government officials said. ?It is her. Cecilia Cubas, 32, was abducted by gunmen two blocks from her home in Asuncion last September, sparking a public outcry and a massive search by security forces who hoped to rescue her alive.

Her body was found in an underground chamber connected to tunnels running under the house and was identified by a dental exam. ?It?s the worst thing that could have happened,? said Mora. Police have arrested several suspects in the case, including the leader of a local left-wing group that is suspected of having ties to Colombia?s FARC guerrillas.

State attorney Oscar Latorre told reporters on Monday that he has evidence showing the suspect, Osmar Martinez, was in contact with the FARC but it was not clear if the Colombian rebel group had any role in the kidnapping. The case was the longest unsolved kidnapping case in Paraguay, a country of 5.7 million people where that particular crime has been on the rise in recent months.
