Inquiry commission on sale by levy

Following the Deelchand affair, many people have come up with alleged cases of land expropriation. And these cases cannot be ignored anymore. Harish Boodhoo declared that plots of lands were sold for a price ten times lower than their real value. As a result, the cabinet decided to set up a commission of enquiry into the procedures of the sale by levy. Former judge and Master and Registrar of the Supreme Court, Abdulah Malleck Ahmed, will chair the commission. He will have to determine whether there have been illegal practices in the system so far and recommend amendments to the legislation and procedures that have not been reviewed since 1886.
