Lutchoomun Kevin Auchoybur, Mauricien de nationalité, a été arrêté au Botswana pour avoir tenté de corrompre un policier. Après avoir comparu en cour hier, il a été remanded to police cell. Il sera fixé sur son sort aujourd?hui car le tribunal décidera s?il pourra ou non être libéré sous caution.

Agé de 28 ans, Lutchoomun Kevin Auchoybur travaille pour Master Investment, une compagnie textile. Le 21 octobre, soupçonné d?être en possession d?un caméscope volé à Maun, un village du nord-ouest du Botswana, il a été arrêté.

Le suspect aurait alors essayé d?offrir un pot-de-vin de Rs 4 500 (600 pula botswanais) à un policier afin que ce dernier abandonne les charges contre lui. Mais Kevin Auchoybur ne réclamait pas seulement de l?indulgence, il voulait aussi que lui soit rendue la caméra vidéo.

Un journal botswanais a fait lundi état de cette arrestation sous le titre ?Mauritian charged with corruption?. Il y est dit : ?The Mauritian was arrested and charged by Maun Police after he allegedly bribed a police officer with P 600 to drop charges against him and hand back a video camera the police had confiscated.?

Le journal ajoute : ?According to a statement, Gaborone police spokesman, Solomon Mantswe, said the man had been charged with suspected stolen property.?
