■ <B> RACE 1 – THE PRETTY MOLLIE PLATE</B>

At the start Real Caliz was slightly slow out and Bobby’s Boy jumped outwards brushing Real Caliz, inconveniencing the latter. Teddy’s Last raced fiercely from the 1 250 metres to the 600 metres. Near the 600 metres, Love Bug shifted in and brushed the running rail. Passing the 300 metres Gandolf, when improving its position into a narrow gap, brushed Credit Line. Jockey Teeha was shown the video of the incident and advised to show more care in future. Shortly after entering the final straight, Desert Prince was inconvenienced over some distance behind Credit Line and had to be switched in and over the final 100 metres was disappointed for a clear run. After entering the final straight, Love Bug had to be steadied and taken in off the heels of African Epoch. Near the 100 metres African Epoch shifted out from the whip, brushing Desert Prince, resulting in jockey S. Bhundoo being unbalanced for a couple of strides.

■ <B>RACE 2 – THE EMILE SAUZIER CUP</B>

Jockey Venkaya, who was unable to ride at the alloted weight, was replaced on Marrakesh by jockey C. Daby. At an inquiry, jockey Venkaya pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 53 A (e) in that he was unable to ride at 55 kg. He was fined Rs 5,000. At the start Marrakesh jumped inwards, taking St. Austell onto Imperious Ceasour, resulting in St Austell having to be eased. Marrakesh (Daby) had a tendency to hang in from the 700 metres and approaching the 400 metres shifted in despite jockey Daby’s attempt to straighten it, brushed the running rail and became unbalanced. Imperious Caesour, which was following, was inconvenienced over some distance.

St Austell raced wide on the final turn and had a tendency to hang in in the final straight, proving difficult to be properly assisted. When questioned about the poor performance of Piper’s Promise, jockey Jones stated that the horse was sluggish out of the barriers and after the start he had to make use of it to lead as per his instructions. He added that being equipped with blinkers, it raced fiercely from the 1200 metres and was very difficult to restrain. He also stated that from the 600 metres the latter compounded badly and never responded to his urgings. A veterinary examination of the horse revealed no abnormality.

Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from St Austell and Express Mail prior to the race and from Jazz Band after the race.

■ <B>RACE 3 – THE RAOUL CORSON CUP</B>

At the start Pipeline jumped inwards and Rob-N-Bob jumped slightly outwards, resulting in Royal Lineage being cramped for room and having to be eased. Chopipe jumped outwards onto Horn Beam and Emjaybee jumped inwards onto Supreme Mission, resulting in Supreme Mission being cramped for room and having to be eased. African Ambassador raced fiercely from shortly after the start until the 600 metres, throwing its head up when being settled and from the 900 metres proved very difficult to control off the heels of Emjaybee. Supreme Mission raced fiercely from the 1 000 metres and was taken out off the heels of Rob’N’Bob approaching the 800 metres. Pipeline raced wide on the first turn. Passing the 300 metres jockey B. Woodworth (African Ambassador), when attempting a run on the outside of Emjaybee, jostled Chopipe on his outside over some distance. Jockey Woodworth was shown the video of the incident and advised to show care when taking his horse out for a clear run. At an inquiry into an incident, jockey Joorawon (Emjaybee) pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 161 (c) in that upon entering the final straight he carelessly allowed his mount to shift in, resulting in African Ambassador being taken onto Pipeline, causing the latter to be cramped for room and having to be eased. Although today’s interference was not of serious consequence, however, taking into consideration that jockey Joorawon was advised the previous week to straighten his mounts when they shift ground, he was fined Rs 20,000.

■ <B> RACE 4 – THE SIR ANDRE NAIRAC CUP</B>

At the start Masterfax was slow out, losing about one length and Blushing Moon raced fiercely from the 1 250 to the 600 metres. From before the 300 metres Burn The Bridge had a tendency to hang in over some distance despite its jockey’s attempt to straighten it and passing the 300 metres shifted in, resulting in French Lightning having to be steadied.

Routine urine specimen was taken for analysis from Star of Houston after the race.

■ <B>RACE 5 –THE BADINAGE MERVEN CUP</B>

The Club’s Veterinary Surgeon reported that To The Line was suffering from a colic and was unfit to race. Consequently, the horse was withdrawn at 8.30 a.m. today. As a result, all bets on this horse were ordered to be refunded and betting with bookmakers was re-opened. Trainer P. Merven was told that To The Line will need a veterinary certificate of soundness before being allowed to race again. At the start, Flavius, which was unruly in its barrier, half-reared when the gates opened and was slow out losing about one length. Shortly after the start Cavendish, which had jumped outwards, brushed Flavius and became unbalanced over a short distance. Shortly after the start Germany On was slightly inconvenienced when One For The Road shifted in. Jockey Craven was shown the video of the incident and advised to exercise more care when shifting ground. Halidom raced wide on the first turn and Have Mercy raced wide throughout. Near the 1200 metres Jumpin Joshua had a tendency to hang in over some distance despite its jockey’s attempt to straighten it, resulting in Cherry Bite and Cavendish being cramped for room and having to be steadied.

■ <B>RACE 6 – THE JOSEPH MERVEN CUP</B>

At the start Bold Plum and Modern Mission were slow out, losing about one and two lengths respectively. From passing the 300 metres until upon entering the final straight Modern Mission was held up for a run. Passing the 300 metres Bold Plum, when being steadied off the heels of Keen To Win, shifted in, brushing Promise Keeper, causing the latter to become unbalanced over a short distance. Passing the 300 metres, Greek Flag, which had a tendency to shift out, had to be straightened upon entering the final straight. Winter’s Flame raced wide throughout.

■ <B> RACE 7 - THE DR. JOCELYN MAINGARD CUP</B>

Gold Guild, which was unruly in its stall, jumped outwards and Almahab was slow out, both losing about one length. Gold Guild raced wide on the first turn. Near the 1 000 metres Noble Rami had to be eased off the heels of Wolfe Tone. Passing the 900 metres, Wolfe Tone, when being eased off the heels of Gold Guild, shifted in abruptly, resulting in both Dane’s Castle and In Her Honour, which were following, having to be eased over some distance. Sun Blast and Almahab raced wide on the final turn.
