■ <B>RACE 1 – THE ELF LUBRIFIANT - LALDHEER PLATE</B>

At the start Awanago was slow out, losing about length, Go Spook jumped inwards brushing Tamarin Falls and had to be eased off the latter’s heels. On jumping, jockey Daby lost his off-side stirrup which he quickly regained and, shortly after, shifted out, brushing Tara’s Fields. From approaching the 1200 metres, Tara’s Fields which was racing fiercely, threw its head up over some distance when being settled. National Trade raced fiercely from the 1200 to the 900 metres and proved difficult to settle off the heels of St. Nicholas. Approaching the 1200 metres St. Nicholas shifted in slightly and was taken out straight away, resulting in Cut’Em Up being cramped over one stride. At an inquiry into an incident, jockey Sooful (St. Nicholas) pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 161 (c) in that approaching the 1100 metres he carelessly allowed his mount to shift in, resulting in National Trade, on his inside, having to be checked over some distance. Jockey Sooful was suspended from riding in races for one race meeting. Near the 1100 metres Go Spook had to be eased. At an inquiry into this incident, it was established that National Trust hung in badly despite its jockey’s effort to straighten it, resulting in Go Spook having to ease. No action was taken against Jockey Woodworth other than telling him that he is expected to make more of an effort to straighten his horses when they shift ground. Upon entering the final straight, Cut’Em Up was slightly inconvenienced and taken out by Tamarin Falls which had shifted out from the whip. When questioned about the poor performance of Tara’s Fields, jockey Whitmore stated that it raced fiercely in the early stages of the race and from the 700 metres did not respond to his urgings. A subsequent veterinary examination of the horse revealed it to be lame on the off fore leg. In view of this, trainer S. Henry was told that this horse will need a veterinary certificate of soundness before being allowed to race again. The Club’s Veterinary Surgeon reported that Intrusion was distressed after the race. In view of this, Trainer Perdrau was told that this horse would need to obtain a veterinary certificate of fitness before being allowed to race again.

Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from National Trust prior to the race and from Intrusion after the race.

■ <B>RACE 2 – THE Renault-JASON ESPITALIER NOEL CUP</B>

At the start The Duke of Dixie was slow out, losing about one length and World Reward jumped outwards brushing Rambo Hawk on its outside. As a result, Rambo Hawk shifted out onto Sardonyx, with the latter becoming slightly cramped for room and having to be eased. From the 1000 metres Sardonyx which was racing fiercely and proving difficult to settle, was taken out and pulled its way closer to the pace. Over the concluding stages World Reward was taken out off the heels of Golden Millenium in order to obtain a clear run. At an inquiry, jockey Jones (Orace Barfoot) was found guilty under Rule 161 (f) in that from the 700 metres onwards, although his horse was not travelling well, still he, without good cause, urged it prematurely and furthermore put undue pressure on the leading horse, thus not riding to the satisfaction of the Stewards. He was suspended from riding in races for four race meetings. At an inquiry, jockey Jones (Orace Barfoot) was found guilty under Rule161 (e) in that in the final straight although his horse was compounding, he still used his whip in an excessive manner. Jockey Jones was fined Rs 5,000. At an inquiry into an incident, jockey Whitmore (Sardonyx) pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 161 (c) in that approaching the 300 metres, he carelessly allowed his mount to shift out, resulting in Rambo Hawk, on his outside, having to be checked. Jockey Whitmore was fined Rs 25,000. Upon entering the final straight, Road Rover shifted out under pressure brushing The Duke Of Dixie on its outside.

Routine urine specimen was taken for analysis from Rambo Hawk after the race.

■ <B>RACE 3 – THE BMW-MAURICE MARTIN CUP</B>

Jockey Venkaya, who was unable to ride at the correct weight, was replaced on River Siren by jockey C. Daby. After hearing the evidence of jockey Venkaya, the Stewards were satisfied with his explanations and no action was taken against him. However, trainer S. Ramdour was told that in future, when declaring a jockey to ride for him, he should ensure that the nominated rider is available. At the start Bang On Time stood flat-footed, was slow out, losing about one length, Sugar Prince jumped outwards brushing Bang On Time. At the 700 metres Fleeing South started racing fiercely and approaching the 600 metres clipped the heels of For Keeps and stumbled. Fleeing South brushed the rail at the 300 metres.
