■ <B>RACE 1 – THE ZILLAH CUP</B>

The Club’s Veterinary Surgeon reported that Free Offer was lame and was unfit to race. Consequently, the horse was withdrawn at 8 a.m. on Friday. As a result, all bets on this horse were ordered to be refunded and betting with bookmakers was re-opened. With the withdrawal of Free Offer, Championchallange became a runner and was ridden by apprentice S. Bhaugeerothee. Trainer L. A. Gallet was advised that Free Offer would need a veterinary clearance before being allowed to race again. At the start Sir Winston was slow out, losing about one length. Precision jumped inwards onto Gandolf, brushing the latter. From the 1200 metres, when the pace slowed, Kevin started to race fiercely and proved difficult to control off the heels of Voodoo Child over some distance. From the 400 metres Sir Winston was taken out in order to obtain a clear run and made the turn into the final straight very wide. Passing the 100 metres, jockey Emamdee accidentally dropped his whip. The Club’s Veterinary Surgeon reported that Championchallange lost its near fore shoe in running.

Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from Gandolf, Free Offer, Sir Winston and Superviviente prior to the race and from Market Research after the race.

■ <B>RACE 2 – THE DUKE OF EDINBURGH CUP</B>

Prior to the start Lockerbie, which was to be loaded last proved very difficult to enter its stall, injuring the handler in its stall. The latter then made an attempt to remove the lead, without success. Jockey Jones reported that Lockerbie was restless in its stall, slow out, difficult to control and ran with its lead. After questioning jockey Jones and watching the relevant videos, the Stewards were of the opinion that the horse’s performance was not affected by racing with the said equipment. In view of this, trainer S. Henry was told that this horse will need to pass a barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards before being allowed to race again. At the start Mr. Millionaire half-reared and was slow out, losing about one length. Lockerbie jumped inwards and threw its head up when being straightened. Passing the 1200 metres, Lockerbie started to race fiercely, proving difficult to control, was taken out off the heels of Aeronaut and allowed to go to the lead. Ebony raced wide throughout. From the 400 metres Intsu, and near the 300 metres Horn Beam were inconvenienced by Lockerbie, which was fading, and were both taken out wide in order to obtain a clear run. The Club’s Veterinary Surgeon reported that Mr. Millionaire was not striding out properly on its off fore leg after the race. Trainer Ramapatee Gujadhur was told that this horse will need a veterinary certificate of fitness before being allowed to race again.

Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from Horn Beam and Aeronaut prior to the race and from Vampire Jet prior to and after the race.

■ <B>RACE 3 – THE J. PHILIPPE LAGESSE CUP</B>

At the start Little Gee and Jamieson Bay half-reared with the latter being slow out, losing about one length. At an inquiry into an incident, jockey Bundhoo ( Ice Flow) pleaded guilty under Rule 161 (b) in that from the 1350 to the 1000 metres he continually intimidated Playing Possum on his inside and interfered with it near the 1350, the 1200 and eventually near the 1050 metres when jockey Jago had to check his mount and lose his position. He was fined Rs 20,000.

Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from Greek Flag, Little Gee, Playing Possum and Remote Horizon prior to the race and from Alaric after the race.

■ <B>RACE 4 – THE QUEEN ELIZABETH II CORONATION CUP

At the start Desert Dance threw its head up, jumped inwards, was slow out, losing about one length. The Club’s Veterinary Surgeon reported that Desert Dance was not striding out properly on its hind legs after the race. Trainer H. Maigrot was told that this horse will need a veterinary certificate of fitness before being allowed to race again.

Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from Gold Bid prior to the race and from Yankee Bell after the race.

■ <B>RACE 5 – THE EDISON SERVICES CUP</B>

Approaching the 1600 metres, Swartland (N.Jeanpierre) was inconvenienced and had to be eased when Hector (R.Hill) shifted in. Jockey Hill was shown the video of the incident and told that it was an offence to intimidate fellow jockeys and that no action was taken against him on this occasion because jockey Jeanpierre had taken precautionary measures. Jockey Jeanpierre was told that he is expected to hold his ground in similar circumstances. At an inquiry into an incident suffered by Lump Sum in the final straight, jockey Brown and trainer Maigrot, acting under Rule 169 (2), were given the opportunity to view the film following which both decided not to lodge an objection. At an inquiry into an incident, jockey Hill (Hector) pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 161 (c) in that in the final straight when going past horse Lump Sum, he carelessly allowed his mount to shift in, resulting in that horse having to be checked and lose its position. He was fined Rs 20,000. At approximately the 50 metres, Swartland shifted out abruptly under pressure.
