The supermodel appeared in court to answer to charges that she assaulted her former housekeeper with a cell phone in March. The appearance came the day after she was sued by a different maid, who claims she, too, was roughed up by the catwalker. Campbell, who has denied wielding a cell phone in a dispute that sent her ex-housekeeper to the hospital, did not speak during her brief appearance in Manhattan Criminal Court. The model and her former employee, Ana Scolavino, were allegedly arguing over a missing pair of jeans that Campbell had accused Scolavino of stealing. Campbell allegedly smacked Scolavino in the back of the head with a cell phone, causing a wound that required four staples to close. The supermodel has called Scolavino’s version of events “completely untrue.” If convicted of the criminal charges against her, the British-born Campbell could face up to seven years in prison and deportation. The prosecution told the judge that no grand jury action had been taken in the case and that a plea bargain was possible. The defense agreed to an adjournment, pending a potential plea deal and Criminal Court Judge Evelyn Laporte ordered all relevant parties to return to court on September 27.
