Gérard Oury est mort

■ Gérard Oury, auteur de nombreux films à succès dont La grande vadrouille (1966) avec Louis de Funès et Bourvil, est mort hier matin 20 juillet à l?âge de 87 ans dans sa maison de Saint-Tropez. Il avait aussi réalisé Les aventures de Rabbi Jacob (1973) avec le même De Funès, ou L?as des as avec Jean-Paul Belmondo (1982). Sa carrière lui avait valu d?être accueilli à la section Cinéma de l?Académie des Beaux-Arts de l?Institut de France en 1998. Le Festival de Cannes lui avait rendu hommage en 2001 en lui décernant le Trophée du Festival. Gérard Oury sera enterré à Paris lundi 24 juillet au matin, dans le caveau familial du cimetière Montparnasse.

Ex-Village People policeman faces jail sentence

■ Victor Willis, who helped make disco history by dressing as a policeman in the hit late-1970s band ?Village People,? pleaded no contest on Wednesday to drug charges. The co-author of the gay-themed group's thumping hits ?In the Navy? and ?YMCA,? Willis was arrested in March on drug and gun charges. The arrest marked the latest in a series of troubles the musician has had with the law since leaving the band in 1980. In a plea deal, he did not contest one count of drug charges and two other counts were dropped. He is scheduled to be sentenced on September 1 and faces a possible prison sentence. Willis was arrested last year on charges of possessing a gun and cocaine, but he disappeared after agreeing to a plea deal. Now he remains behind bars pending sentencing.
