Le National Communication Committee tient sa conférence de presse habituelle sur le Covid-19, ce dimanche 28 mars, «animée» par Kailesh Jagutpal. Il y sera notamment question de l’arrivée des 24 000 doses d’AstraZeneca, sous le COVAX. 

A ce sujet, le Government information Service a émis un communiqué : 

“COVID-19: Consignment of 24 000 doses of AstraZeneca reach Mauritius through Gavi 

A stock of 24 000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine reached Mauritius today at the initiative of the Ministry of Health and Wellness in collaboration with Gavi vaccine alliance. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade has been doing the follow up to ensure that the vaccines arrive in a reasonable delay.

The consignment was received at the Sir Seewoosagur International Airport in presence of the Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr K. Jagutpal, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr. A. Ganoo. The UN Ambassador to Mauritius, Mr. Vincent Degert, the representative of WHO, Dr Laurent Musango, and the UN Resident Coordinator, Mrs. Christine Umutoni, were also present.

Health Minister Jagutpal underlined that these doses will be used in the national vaccination programme and will ensure that all those inoculated with the AstraZeneca vaccine, Covishield, will get their second due dose. The 24 000 doses have been purchased by the Ministry of Health and Wellness.

While underscoring that the vaccination programme is going on in a satisfactory manner, Dr Jagutpal reiterated his plea to the medical personnel to get vaccinated.

Foreign Affairs Minister Ganoo highlighted that his Ministry is working with various agencies across the world for the purchase of vaccines against COVID-19. He thanked all countries and agencies collaborating with Mauritius such as India, China, Russia as well as the World Health Organization, Gavi and COVAX, to ensure that we receive the number of vaccines required to inoculate at least 60% of the population.

Minister Ganoo pointed out that there is a rush on the global level for the acquisition of vaccines and all responsible parties are playing their parts to ensure that there is a fair and equitable distribution of vaccines against COVID-19, especially for poor countries.
